I recently embarked on a life-changing trip to Italy with my close friends and husband. I could go on for hours about how the culture and vibrant atmosphere was so refreshing. However, there’s one particular experience that stands out, that was all about authenticity and the idea that hard work can help bring you your dreams. This adventure in particular really brought back my perspective of small business.
As we wandered through Florence, we stumbled upon countless jewelry shops. However, one particular charm bracelet shop grabbed our interest. We ventured down winding alleys in search of this hidden gem. Finally, nestled behind a small garden patio, we discovered a quaint store with no signage—just a skilled craftsman at work. Inside, we were greeted by an endless array of charms, each one more delightful than the last. We lost track of time carefully selecting our favorites, and when we presented our choices to the owner, he expertly welded the charms together while we watched. Witnessing his passion for his craft was truly inspiring.
No other store in Florence allowed us to be so involved in creating our charm bracelets. Not only did we choose each charm and arrange them as we wished, but we also witnessed the entire process of making it. The very bracelet I’m wearing now was welded right in front of me. It’s similar to the experience of dining at a fancy restaurant where you can watch the chefs prepare your meal—this was a unique and special moment that resonates deeply. Each charm captures the incredible memories I made in Italy. One charm, in particular, symbolizes the friendship I share with my travel companions, making it a beautiful piece of Italy that I truly cherish. All the charms bring back the warm memories of delicious food, beauty, and peace. Now, I wear these cherished memories on my wrist.
A further sterling aspect of the shop was the owner’s patience; he never rushed us to finish our bracelets
or usher us out the door. He genuinely wanted us to appreciate his craft and experience the entire process. Most importantly, he encouraged us to take our time finding the perfect charms. His focus wasn’t on being quick or cheap; it was about creating the best possible memory for us. It was clear that this was his true passion, and he cared deeply for his customers.
I admired how he didn’t feel the need to advertise himself or oversell his work; he was genuine and humble. He dedicated himself to his craft with originality, and the world responded by recognizing him and his dedication. Remarkably, he went viral on TikTok thanks to the support of his customers and his business flourished because of the thoughtfulness he showed toward both his art and his clients. There’s something beautiful about people taking pride in one another and wishing the best for others. He truly deserves all his success, as those who work hard and invest their time often see their dreams come to life.
This experience really made me reflect on my own work. I love creating logos, branding, and anything marketing, and I cherish sitting down over coffee to truly understand my clients. While you can easily whip up a logo on Canva, that lacks a meaningful process. If you don’t take the time to explore what makes you and your business unique, your logo won’t reflect your essence. An authentic logo development process is essential; if you can’t look at it and see a piece of yourself, then it’s just a logo—it lacks true significance.
Creating a great product—like a design—requires specialization and dedication. It involves hours spent on mood boards, meticulously searching through every shade of a color until we find one that perfectly represents who you are. The process includes mockups, edits, multiple versions, and even more revisions. Crafting a quality design also demands time; I can’t simply spend a day to deliver the perfect logo. It takes weeks of collaboration, meetings, and building a meaningful relationship with my clients to truly understand their vision and purpose. Every moment spent refining designs or discussing ideas with my clients is a minute well invested. Just like our experience at the charm bracelet shop in Italy taught us, good things come when you take the time to create something beautiful.
Not only am I dedicated to working hard for you, but you’re also putting in immense effort for yourself. I understand that owning a business brings both incredible highs and challenging lows. It demands a significant portion of your life, and you don’t deserve a cheap, inauthentic design for all the hard work you invest. You deserve something beautiful that truly represents you and your business. Your logo should reflect your identity and vision, so it’s essential to prioritize quality over convenience. You deserve the best.
I want to wrap this up by encouraging you to support small businesses and give them the recognition they deserve. Without word of mouth and social media, the charm bracelet shop might be in a very different position. Instead, the owner dedicates his life to something he truly loves. If you appreciate a business and see their hard work, they deserve a shoutout! So, next time you’re at your favorite family-owned restaurant or shopping local, take a moment to tell them how amazing they are—and then share that love with the world. It will mean everything to them.
