For a long time, I resisted Canva. I love my Adobe platforms and know them like the back of my hand. But, Canva is such an amazing platform for non-designers to design. I love that it empowers small businesses to save time and money by creating their marketing assets in-house. I’ve been using Canva more and more to provide my clients with files they can edit, adjust, and reuse in the future.
Using mockups to represent your product and service is vastly helpful. For those who don't know what a mockup is, it is essentially photoshopping your branding to a real-life image. For example, putting your logo on a t-shirt, or your website on a phone/computer screen. Mockups are vital to showing the purpose or intent of your business and also are a great way to represent your visual elements, such as colors, typography, and structure.
Step 1: To find mockups, go to the sidebar of your Canva Homescreen and select apps, then mockups.
Step 2: Select your mockup! Canva has endless choices to pick from, you can scroll through their categories below or use the search bar if you have something more specific.
Step 3: Once you have selected a mockup, for example, I just used a simple phone screen, you can continue by selecting an image. Canva gives you the option to scroll through designs you have already uploaded in Canva or upload a new image from your desktop.
Step 4: Adjust your image! There are multiple different ways to adjust the image whether its scale, rotation, or placement. you can play around with it. Canva makes this all very easy for beginners.
Step 5: Don't forget to save your mockup, then Canva will offer you to 'download' or 'use in design'. You can also explore similar mockup layouts below your design or restart and create more. Enjoy this handy little trick Canva offers!
Like I said before, I’ve been having a lot of fun getting to know Canva. I feel it’s such a great solution for my clients and an easy way for us to collaborate. Adobe will still always be my favorite though!
